    Research scholars at NITTTR Chandigarh have the option to enrol for PhD programs at the following universities, subject to approval of admission by the respective university:
    • Panjab University, Chandigarh
    • IK Gujral Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar (Punjab)
    • JC Bose University of Science and Technology (JCBUST), YMCA, Faridabad (Haryana)
    However, it is important to note that the admission must comply with all the UGC regulations as accepted by the concerned university.

    NITTTR Chandigarh offers PhD programs under the following categories:

    PhD under QIP Scheme (Full-time): This category is for candidates who are admitted through the Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) of AICTE and pursue their PhD on a full-time basis.

    PhD under Direct Admission (Self-Sponsored) Category: This category is for candidates who are self-sponsored and directly admitted to the PhD program at NITTTR Chandigarh.

    PhD under Industrial Fellowship (presently Full-time only for Electrical Engineering under M/s Typhoon HIL, Switzerland): This category is currently available for full-time PhD candidates in Electrical Engineering, sponsored by M/s Typhoon HIL, Switzerland, as part of an industrial fellowship program.

    Yes, there are various fellowships and scholarships available for PhD scholars at NITTTR Chandigarh, depending on the scheme they are admitted under. Here are the details:

    PhD scholars admitted under the QIP scheme will receive a monthly scholarship/stipend and an annual contingency grant as per the AICTE QIP guidelines. For more information, visit the website https://qip.aicte-india.org/

    Full-time scholars admitted under the direct admission scheme can apply for various fellowship schemes such as INSPIRE, CSIR, AICTE, Minority community fellowship, and others.

    PhD scholars admitted under the M/s Typhoon HIL, Switzerland Sponsored fellowship scheme will receive a scholarship of Rs. 28,000/- per month for three years, subject to performance reviews every six months.

    The disciplines/branches offered PhD programs at NITTTR Chandigarh are as follows:

    For PhD under the Direct Admission Scheme: Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Management*, and Applied Sciences** (Physics, Mathematics).

    For PhD under the QIP Scheme: Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering.

    PhD under Industrial Fellowship (Presently under M/s Typhoon HIL, Switzerland): Electrical Engineering.

    *Management Discipline is offered only under IKG-PTU Jalandhar and JCBUST, YMCA, Faridabad.
    **Applied Science Discipline is offered only under JCBUST, YMCA, Faridabad.

    The number of PhD seats in any branch/discipline under the direct admission category is determined based on the availability of supervisors in that branch/discipline. Under the QIP Scheme, 10 seats are available, and under the M/s Typhoon HIL, Switzerland Fellowship, 1 seat is available.

    Applications for all categories of scholars are invited through advertisements posted on the NITTTR Chandigarh website (www.nitttrchd.ac.in) and/or in leading newspapers from time to time. For direct admission category scholars, admission can also be sought at any time during the year through the institute's Academic and Administrative PhD Admission Committee, with the approval of the Director, NITTTR Chandigarh.     Admission to the PhD programs under the direct admission and Typhoon HIL, Switzerland Fellowship categories is based on merit prepared using (i) presentation and/or interview conducted at the Institute and (ii) B Tech/M.Tech marks. For the QIP scheme, admission is made based on the selection criteria prescribed in the QIP scheme's information brochure. The eligibility of candidates is assessed by the Institute's PhD Admission Committee, who then recommends them for enrolment/registration to the university. Candidates also need to fill in the application form as per the PhD Brochure/guidelines of the concerned university for enrolment/registration.

    Yes, candidates interested in admission under the direct admission scheme are required to apply for and qualify the PhD Entrance Examination as per the schedule available on the degree awarding university's website. However, candidates who have cleared GATE/NET or other national fellowship tests are exempted from appearing in the PhD entrance examination.

    The minimum eligibility criteria for each category are as follows:

    PhD under Direct Admission Scheme: Relevant Master's degree or equivalent with minimum marks/CGPA as per the degree awarding university, qualified PhD Entrance Examination of the degree awarding university or GATE/NET or other national fellowship tests. Teachers, working engineers, and fresh master�s degree holders are eligible.

    PhD under QIP Scheme: A Master's Degree or equivalent in an appropriate branch as per the details available at the link https://qip.aicte-india.org/.

    PhD under M/s Typhoon HIL, Switzerland Industrial Fellowship: Master's degree in Engineering/Technology in a relevant branch/discipline with a CGPA of 7.0 or above on a scale of 10 or equivalent (70% marks if CGPA is not awarded) at the M.E/M.Tech level. Candidates with GATE qualification will be preferred. Qualified PhD Entrance Examination of the degree awarding university or GATE/NET or other national fellowship tests are also required.

    If a student leaves the Institute without completing the PhD program, they will only be refunded the Institute security/caution money. However, all outstanding dues will be recovered before such a refund is made.

    For ME (Regular) Programmes, this is as per the norms of affiliating university, i.e. Panjab University, Chandigarh for the offered ME programmes.     In ME (Regular) programmes, GATE qualified candidates shall be paid scholarship as per AICTE guidelines.
